My First ER Exposure

What's the first word that you will ever thought of when you heard Emergency Room? Mine is, CRITICAL. I never thought of its literally critical. I'll be sharing my first experience on ER..

June 19, 2009 - First day of our duty. We had an orientation, lecture, and a tour around Taguig District Hospital. I also had my first scrub on ER that day. A 12 year old boy who's involved in a vehicular accident and got his face so many stitches. We also had 1 postive H1N1 case. Buti na lang nung inadmitt siya, break namin. So pagbalik naming, the patient was already being isolated. Haha but still, paano kaya yung mga nurse na nakausap niya tapos nakausap namin? Scary..

June 20, 2009 - Hands on.

Though our preceptor is not around, the nurses allowed us to help them in the ER. The first incident was a man with a gun shots on his back. Sobrang unexpected! Because they let us do CPRs and ambu bagging. We tried everything but the patient did not survive. He lost a lot of blood. Then after that, a woman also arrived who had a heart attack. Same thing happened. CPR and ambu bag, but after 30 minutes to 1 hour, the patient died. We admitted so many people with different cases. May nahimatay, yung bumaril sa namatay ( as in naka posas pa siya and may mga pulis ), vehicular accidents, and mauling.

Grabe.. For me, ER nurses are the most skilled nurses in the hospital. Its super chaotic and nurses have to deal with different persons and different situations. What’s hard on being on the ER is becoming desensitized. So many dramas, we see a lot of pain. Oh well, this is just the start. May next week pa!! haha!! Im excited, scared, thrilled, amazed, looking forward at the same time!!
