Kaleidoscope Heart

Inside is not a heart but a kaleidoscope :)

Now a days in our new generation of auto tuned music in the mainstream like Ke$ha and Lady Gaga, which I call a machine produced songs, L.A. based singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles is one of the proofs that REAL musicians with REAL voice and talent still exists.

If you ask me to write a list of who I want to see perform live, she's probably one of the top 10. I've been a fan ever since her "Love Song", "Bottle It Up", and "Gravity" in 2007. And so when I heard that she is going to release a new album, I knew from there that it's going to be worth the purchase.

When I first heard about "Kaleidoscope Heart" it already caught my attention because of the catchy album title. Thought it was just an extension of her upbeat and catchy song melodies.. To my surprise, a large portion of the new album is somewhat mellow and soulful. The little intro was just perfect! "Inside is not a heart but a kaleidoscope" :)

She definitely continues to show the world how good of a songwriter she can be.

About the appearance of the album, I'm really disappointed that labels even consider about releasing cardboard albums especially in our era that most of the people just download them free and illegal. For a second, I was even hesitant to buy the album right away to a point that I was thinking if a cardboard album is worth buying. But obviously, I still bought the album, opened it as soon as I walked out the music store to check the CD, and guess what? It has a booklet with lyrics!! So hyped about it. Cus the last time I bought a cardboard album, it was just literally the cardboard and the CD.

So anyway, my favorite tracks are Uncharted, Hold My Heart, King of Anything, Let It Rain, and Breathe Again. Something that a girl can definitely relate to. Or maybe it was just me? hehe

Please do write a comment below if you already had the chance to listen to it. I love feedbacks :)

  1. FINALLY! I can share my excitement about this album with you! haha :)

First of all, I totally agree with you on the fact that she's one of the proofs that REAL musicians and REAL talents still exist. I think the whole "auto-tuned machine produced songs" are totally overrated.

Anyway, Sara B is one of those musicians that I don't even have to preview the songs before I buy the album because I already know it's going to turn out amazing. :) She is also one of the musicians I would absolutely love to see live one day, not in those huge arenas, but in small and intimate shows. I gotta turn 21 faster!! lol

My favorite songs are pretty much the ones you listed on there, but if I were to choose just one, it would be "Hold My Heart" because that song helped me a lot over the past few months. I especially love the line, "Is anybody listening? 'Cause I'm crying." That part gets me all the time. haha. The song gets me thinking about who ARE there to listen to me. In other words, it's like a constant reminder to me of who my real friends are, the ones who stood by me through the good and the bad, the ones who I know are always there to LISTEN.

You can count yourself as one of them. <3 ;)

  2. yay! I like sara! I received this album as a gift from Mie, and i am so grateful for this!
The album is really beautiful, all the songs are perfect in their own little way, and the lyrics are amazingly well writen!
All the respect for this lady!

PS: I heard Ke$ha singing live and she was so much better than Katy Perry or Rihanna at the EMA's and i was so surprised.

  3. Adi: ke$sha without the machine? wow what a surprise! Lady Gaga actually sounds nice with just her and her piano.. but too bad that auto tuned songs are selling instead of real voices..
